Research into SKIP – what it is and why it works
27 April 2010
Alex Woodley and Nadine Metzger of Point Research completed a review of SKIP (Strategies with Kids, Information for Parents) in 2009. A short summary report written by Dr. Elizabeth Clements is now available.
The research found key factors that make SKIP successful are:
- a clear, strong, collective vision focused on social change
- genuine partnership with community
- a culture of possibility
- the use of social marketing to promote an agreed message
- the idea success breeds success
- a positive, universal and non-judgemental approach.
Gael Surgenor, Service Development Manager is pleased to have research that points to key success factors we can all learn from: "SKIP has always had a very clear vision - that all children growing up in New Zealand are raised in a positive way with parents who feel confident about managing children's behaviour as part of a loving, nurturing relationship.
"We have also always been clear that we wanted to find ways to encourage innovation, and to work in partnership with both national and community organisations.
"Taking the time to research and evaluate how our work is impacting on that vision is important. Research gives us the opportunity to ‘renew, review, revoke and revise' which is key to working innovatively.
